Bender Gestalt Screening for Brain Dysfunction by Patricia Lacks,

Bender Gestalt Screening for Brain Dysfunction by Patricia Lacks,
Utilized for over 60 years by clinicians worldwide, the Bender Gestalt Test (BGT) today continues to be a widely used assessment tool to measure the cognitive domain of visuoconstructive abilities and to screen for brain dysfunction. Much of the BGT’ s popularity rests on its brevity, simplicity, and proven effectiveness with individuals from age 4 to 100. The test is often employed in inpatient psychiatric settings because of its ability to discriminate between brain impairment and serious mental disorders like schizophrenia. More recently, the BGT has also been used to identify older adults at high risk for cognitive decline. This Second Edition is fully revised and includes an up-to-date review of the relevant scientific literature on the test’ s reliability, validity, and diagnostic accuracy. The book also contains additional normative data, a discussion of malingering, and almost all new examples and practice case materials. Five new chapters address issues in neuropsychological screening, eight steps to interpretation of test results, and use of the Bender Gestalt Test with children, adolescents, and older adults. The book serves as a comprehensive manual for the administration, scoring, and interpretation of the Bender Gestalt Test. The diagnostic significance of general and specific behavioral observations is stressed and a format for recording them is included. For scoring, there are descriptions and multiple examples within the author’ s adaptation of the 12 errors of the Hutt and Briskin scoring system. The reader can use the 12 varied clinical case examples with explication of the scoring and 10 additional practice cases to gain rapid scoring facility andaccuracy. Norms are provided for adult nonpatients and psychiatric inpatients, nonpatient and demented older adults, and adolescents.

Cognition and Tool Use: The Blacksmith at Work by Charles M. Keller,
Cognition and Tool Use: The Blacksmith at Work by Charles M. Keller,
In Cognition and Tool Use, anthropologists Janet and Charles Keller provide an account of human accomplishment based on ethnographic study. Blacksmithing - the transformation of glowing iron into artistic and utilitarian products - is the activity in which they study situated learning. This domain, permeated by visual imagery and physical virtuosity rather than verbal logic, appears antithetical to the usual realms of cognitive study. For this reason, it provides a new entree to human thought and an empirical test for an anthropology of knowledge. How does a mind in action access a stable, "sedimented" body of knowledge and create something original? What does human tool use say about human thought? What does someone need to know to successfully produce a material artifact and how do they gain this understanding? In addressing these questions, the authors offer an interdisciplinary perspective on the principled creativity of human behavior. This book will especially appeal to anthropologists and psychologists who wish to explore an alternative approach to learning and cognition.

Test (student assessment) - In education, certification, counselling, and many other fields, a test or exam (short for examination) is a tool or technique intended to measure students' expression of knowledge, skills and/or abilities. A test has more questions of greater difficulty and requires more time for completion than a quiz.

Aquifer test - An Aquifer test is conducted to evaluate an aquifer by "stimulating" the aquifer through constant pumping, and observing the aquifer's "response" (drawdown) in observation wells. Aquifer testing is a common tool that hydrogeologists use to characterize a system of aquifers, aquitards and flow system boundaries.

Multiple Sleep Latency Test - The Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT) is a sleep disorder diagnostic tool. It is used to measure the time it takes from the start of a nap period to the first signs of sleep.

Application Center Test - Application Center Test is a Microsoft load testing tool for web servers, focused on ASP. It operates in a similar fashion to the market leader Mercury LoadRunner in simulating numerous HTTP sessions from one machine.
